The New England Patriots Instagram is not very good, to say the least. If you’ve read my last blog post, then you might recognize some of the faults I’m about to describe that I found on the New England Patriots Instagram. Many other brands and companies make these same mistakes, so I wanted to see exactly how bad their Instagram was in comparison to their competitors. Naturally, the competitor I chose was the team they lost to in the NFL Super Bowl 52. In this blog post I’ll be comparing the Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles Instagram content, in what I’ll be calling Instagram Super Bowl I.

Similarities
A very apparent similarity in both of these accounts is the lack of engagement. They both get hundreds of comments on each post, which is very easy to read and respond to. However, they don’t put in the time or effort to interact with any of these comments. Sprout Social says that failing to reply to comments will lead roughly 30% of social media users to go to a competitor if you ignore them. That’s important to know because 34.5% of people say social media is their top choice for customer care communication. Both the Patriots and Eagles need to improve this aspect of their Instagram account.
Differences that favor the New England Patriots
The first difference I will highlight is that the Patriots tag their players in posts that feature them. I think this is very important because casual fans may not know every player on the team. My classmate Martina discovered that the Eagles do not do this. Instead they rely on their followers to simply know the players by their face, number, or nickname. This is not good practice, as it drives those people who might not know much about the actual players but are fans of the team away.
The Patriots also posted about Lunar New Year, but the Eagles did not. This shows that the Patriots took time to acknowledge and cater a post for a culture different from their typical follower. This is not good on the Eagles part because they come off as unaccepting or ignorant of cultures other than their own. Followers value inclusion a ton, and this is a big market to not appeal to.
Differences that favor the Philadelphia Eagles
The first difference I will highlight in the Eagles favor is that they post on the weekends during the off-season, whereas the Patriots do not. This means that the Eagles are putting out more content, and in a constant stream, for their followers to enjoy.
This content is also more appealing than what the Patriots are posting. The Eagles post more personable and engagement-seeking content, such as images that interest followers, and videos that are eye catching and funny. Additionally, the Eagles post behind the scenes content, which makes fans and followers feel even closer to the team on a personal level.
Conclusion
There are a couple of differences between the Patriots and Eagles Instagram accounts, many of which point to the Philadelphia NFL team having the superior account. Once again the Eagles top the Patriots in the super bowl, and though this win might not come with hardware or money, it is an important win nonetheless.
Let me know what you think
What is your opinion on who won this comparison? What do you think about the points I’ve presented, or is there anything I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments below, as well as share this blog post with people you think might be interested!
It was very interesting to read the differences between these two competitors on the same platform. Especially since they’re both working with similar football-related content. However, as you said in the blog, the Eagles do a much better job making that content interesting and eye-catching. That definitely makes them a better Instagram account, but I’m still surprised that they don’t tag their players/coaches.

I agree that the Patriots and Eagles should both be engaging with their followers that are commenting. They both have a huge following and the whole point of social media is to keep the followers engaged. I like what you said about the Eagles posting more personable content because it is true and I feel the Patriots should follow in their footsteps!
